To be perfectly honest with you, not much is known about young wonder, Doja Cat. The mysterious Los Angeles-based singer-rapper, born Ami Zandile, silently sets Soundcloud and Tumblr in a frenzy each time she unleashes another creation. It’s quiet impressive that she has such influence with a minimal blog presence, right?   I first caught wift about the newly turned 18-year-old through her biggest buzz tune to date, “So High”. The track is well over a year old — and the quality may not be it’s best — but there is organic rawness that extrudes over the Evil Needle instrumental. Instead of chasing musical trends in the mainstream, Doja appears to draw her inspiration from deep hip-hop and soul roots, similar the to Los Angeles’ beat head-boom bap scene that embraces our very own, Iman Omari. Let’s not forget to mention that she’s a double threat. Serving young Erykah Badu pipe vibes and Nicki Minaj with her rap tone and lyrical prowess, there’s something in Doja Cat for everyone.
